Dr. Jim “Orgoman” Romano is the author of the Destroyer books as well as founder and head instructor at Romano Scientific. He holds two degrees in Organic Chemistry and Dental Surgery from the University of Miami and New York University, respectively.

Dr. Romano studied extensively under world famous chemists, such as Drs. Mills, Hare, Eschegoyen, Schultz, Oratz and Bartolotti, and is considered one of the best organic chemists worldwide.

After completing his education, rather than pursuing a career as an oral surgeon, Dr. Romano came to realize his true passion was found in helping students understand the sciences.

In 2006, Dr. Romano and Orgoman co-founder Nancy Steen, combined their passions and expertise and began publishing the most comprehensive and effective prep books for the DAT & OAT – helping students excel and score high on their exams for over 15 years.

ADVICE FROM DR. ROMANO

From my experience of teaching general chemistry, organic chemistry and physics for over 30 years, the two major obstacles students face when taking exams are: (1) running out time and (2) not having a sound foundation in the concepts.

Know the Destroyer Cold; everything is on target to Destroy the DAT/OAT. Our prep books will help you build a good foundation in the basic sciences. However, there are no “DAT SECRETS”. Ask any oral surgeon, periodontist, or prosthodontist about secrets to achieve success and I am sure that they will agree that there is only hard work, perseverance, dedication, and proper preparation.

I have geared the DAT Destroyer for the most serious student, not for students looking for an easy way out or a miracle to occur. The questions are slightly more difficult, but the explanations are very detailed and clear. Practicing these solutions will allow you to handle a wide-range of potential questions, getting you ready to achieve a high score on the DAT.

I initially signed up for the online course with Dr. Romano and Denis and it was extremely helpful compared to other resources. On top of the online course, I also did private tutoring with Denis, which I found to be immensely helpful because it was personalized to my needs. Denis is the only DAT tutor that I would rely on to get a good DAT score. He constantly pushed me to do better, while throughly explaining concepts that I was confused on. Dr. Romano and Denis make a great team and will do everything they can to insure that you get a good score on the DAT. I tutored with Denis Barengolts for General Chemistry 1 & 2 as well as Organic Chemistry. Denis was a great professor and truly passionate about making sure I understood each topic. Denis also emailed me the notes from each session which was a major plus as I could always refer back to them. Out of all my years of being in undergrad, I can single-handly say that Denis Barengolts has been one of the best tutors I have ever had. Dr Romano is also amazing within his own right, but Denis' simplicity in being able to translate any information is beyond phenomenal. Anything that took me weeks/months to grasp in undergrad by an actual professor, took me hours with Denis. I took the summer DAT course and worked with Denis one on one. Denis is an amazing professor and helped me so much with doing well on the DAT. There's so much material on this exam but the help that I've received from the program and tutoring made the test taking so much more manageable. I don’t know what else I can say, except that working with Dr. Romano and Denis Barengolts was the best decision I ever made. I made the mistake of not using Destroyer the first time, hence my re take. However, interacting in the FB study group and getting tutoring from Professor Barengolts helped earn my score! I cannot thank them enough, and if you are wondering if you should invest in the products and tutoring..you absolutely need to. You won’t regret it!!
